Hi friends!
Those of you who have been following this blog since August have realized that I do a weekly post (when school is in session) about how my pre-service teaching career aka "the teacher gets educated" years are going.
My classes this semester total 14 hrs.
In order (Monday-Thursday), my classes are:
Mon.- Planning & Assessment WITH Teaching Science in Elementary Schools (1 hr. + 2 hrs)
Tues.- Reading for the Elementary Teacher I (3 hrs.)
Wed.- Collaborations & Strategies (On-line class--3 hrs.)
Wed.- Teaching Social Studies in the Elementary School (2 hrs.)
Thurs.- Mathematics for Elementary/Middle School Teacher II (3 hrs.)

I think this will probably be my most frustrating class of the semester. I love Science, but I am unsure how the semester will progress. All I know is that we have three different books and a lot of stuff to get done.

Homework: Decide on something I would like to teach in Astronomy/Earth Science (I will need more direction probably in the future than just go decide on a topic!!).
Reading for the Elementary Teacher I (3 hrs.)
Did PowerPoints on the 7 pillars of Effective Reading Instruction with each of us divided in a small group and creating a powerpoint on one of the pillars (no duplicates). It was quick and easy. I enjoy the way Dr. Ezell teaches this class as she wants you to use your brain and creativity and uses the class period to finish the work rather than just talking and sending you home with homework, which is a highly ineffective way to teach.
Collaborations & Strategies (3 hrs.)
This week we have to Read Chapter 7: Students with High-Incidence Disabilities and Take a Quiz. Also due was an interview with a parent with a student that has special needs, which will be around 2-3 pages in length.
Homework to do: Read Ch. 7, Take Quiz, Interview (set up for Sunday morning)
Teaching Social Studies in the Elementary School (2 hrs.)
In class, we discussed as tables and to the class what Social Studies is and why it is important.
Mathematics for Elementary/Middle School Teacher II (3 hrs.)
We went over Ch. 9, section 3 & 4 this week.
9.3-- Using Simulations in Probability
9.4--Odds, Conditional Probability, and Expected Value
Homework: 9.3 & 9.4 homework on-line and in-text, read Ch. 9, section 5 and Ch. 10 section 1 and write three questions about the sections. Next week we will be working with M&Ms. Anytime you add M&Ms to a class makes a happy child or in this case, an adult student.

Week #2 is still not quite a "traditional" week in the co-hort. I expect Week #3 to be the "bombshell of reality." If Week #3 does not bring reality, then maybe this semester is not so bad or I got used to the work from last semester. This week I delivered all of my teacher reference applications to the appropriate staff and had my physical and negative TB test done. Hopefully I will not have so many "errands" as I did this week except for my annual eye exam on Monday. :)
Thanks for reading!
Much Love,
Mama Mindy :)

OMD that is a lot to do. Have a super Saturday and we hope you get some Me Time.
Best wishes Molly
Two of Mom's Favorite teaching classes were the Social Studies and READING Classes... She used the things she learned in the Reading class... EVERY SINGLE DAY of her teaching career!
You will love both also.
Well we gots to tell you, with all you school stuff, you have inspired Mom to go and take some class at a local junior college work work!
The Mad Scots
Pees; Please tell George that we got him on the work listing for the Dance, he's gonna be working directly with Bites as Problem control/Bouncer!
Rather you than me Mindy - you have more dedication to school work than I do, I will just stick to my art classes :)
