Here is the notice I saw on Facebook Wednsday night:
Spay the Strays

TIME IS NOT ON OUR SIDE. There are moms and newborns here as well! We are going to trap as many as we can but we need FOSTER HOMES for these kitties! Please Help! Call 407-460-2305 or email: SpayTheStrays@Aol.Com or Connect with us here on Facebook. *****
Let me give you just a bit of background. I was planning a couple of posts for this Spring about this
very feral cat colony. I have been in contact with a woman (Cheryl ) for several months now. She is the volunteer (through Spay the Strays) who has been feeding at the colony we discovered and reported last May. She and I have become friends, and she promised from the very beginning that if she could find Domino in that mess, she would get him for me. (You can read about Domino and how we came to know about him in the first several posts of June 2012 in this blog,
starting here.)
Several days ago, Cheryl told me that the restaurant owner next door to the abandoned hotel told her the hotel had changed hands and was going to be torn down. Cheryl and I started to worry about what would happen to the cats, but nothing changed and we hoped this was incorrect information. Then Cheryl texted me and said one of the four buildings in the abandoned hotel complex had been wrapped in plastic. I couldn’t picture what she meant. We didn’t know who would have done that or why.
Then Wednesday night on Facebook, I saw this:
As I scanned Facebook for more info, I found the alert (copied here at the beginning of this post). I am just sick about this. Friends - I fully realize that there are cats in danger everywhere. And of course I know there are feral cat colonies all over this country. But
I am the one who found this particular colony. It broke my heart to leave it behind last May when our vacation was over. I hated that I left such a huge responsibility for someone else to worry about. I made an absolute commitment to both Anita and Cheryl that I WOULD take full responsibility for Domino if he could be located and trapped. I was hopeful that maybe over time, the funds and volunteers would become available to get this particular cat colony under control in terms of spay/neuter. But Florida is like everywhere else. There are NEVER enough volunteers and there is NEVER enough money. Cheryl has been feeding and watering. She also took a handicapped kitten and is helping her learn to walk.
But now . . . Now there is no chance for TNR. Even if all of the cats could suddenly be spayed & neutered and released to live in the only place they’ve ever known, that place will no longer exist. Anita and Cheryl and a handful of others are scrambling to try to find an answer. If the buildings are demolished with the cats and kittens inside, they will be killed. Those that escape will have no where to go. We need BIG help, Friends. I left a voice mail at the main office of Alley Cat Allies to see if they could offer any help or ideas. Time is ticking. My understanding is that the demolition is scheduled to begin in just over a week. PLEASE, if you have ANY ideas, or if YOU CAN HELP in ANY way at all, let me know or contact Spay The Strays directly. Their information is in that first paragraph.
One of the things they are asking for is foster homes. I feel so desperate. If only I had a small feral cat sanctuary. I spent alot of the overnight hours wishing I could get a loan, buy a building that could be set up here on my property, and offer to take a group of these cats if they could be transported here. I realize that these are feral cats. I know some will NEVER come around and be adoptable. I know this would only help with a small portion of the total number. Or even if I could take some of the kittens - I KNOW I can tame feral kittens! I wish there WAS a feral cat sanctuary somewhere that could take a group of these cats. OK. I’m going to stop wishing out loud now and hope that maybe you, my friends, will have some ideas. Please share this post everywhere you can think of.
Here are some of the pictures I took last May.

Just an idea, but how much would it cost to just fly these kitties to their new home (perhaps find a kitty loving person who is going that way anyway) and then add a ChipIn where those interested can just "give a little bit" to help them get home. I don't imagine the cost would be too unreasonable if everyone could help a little.
I think Amber's idea is terrific. I certainly would steer people to the Chip in and would offer to do an auction but the money wouldn't come in soon enough and I don't have the auction site set up yet. I also wish I could help those other kitties but I am full up. Take care.
sending all good wishes

I can't stand the thought of pals without homes. I would help in any way I could.
