Mama Mindy's Week 9 of classes--Fall Break...Not Really a Break at All

Mama Mindy's Week 8 of Classes: Fall Break...What Break??? Fall...maybe that is the only way I'll get a "break"
Hi friends!

This week's re-cap:

This semester I am taking 13 credit hours, which doesn't sound like a lot...but I am actually taking 5 courses.

Only two classes met this week...and technically one class was not "class" but a "live teaching opportunity/experiment" that was deemed a necessary part of the final grade for that class. :)

Math for Elementary Ed & Middle School Teachers I (3 hours). Exam #2 was a total bummer...but she did grade us fairly. Thank the Lord!! Now...we are working with fractions and rational numbers.  So far...so good. My problem from last week involving the context of why a negative times a negative equals a positive was solved. I was told to look at it three different ways: two colored poker chips (not very beneficial), positive/negative charges (more beneficial), and money (most beneficial).
Think of -$4 as a loan you take and say -2 as two days for which you took that loan. -$4 X -2 =$8.00, you owe $8.00.  Hopefully, I made that in type make sense...if not, you see how hard the concept will be for kiddos.

Homework left: Up until today (Sunday) I had three sections of homework to do...but alas, prior to this post I finished it. Yay! (and good riddance!)

Field & Lab Biology (3 hours).  Water Festival was on Tuesday and my duty, should I take it (but of course) was to teach 4th graders about how to stop the spread of germs by washing their hands. GASP!! I know.  I was happy to find out that kids are being taught to cough or sneeze into their elbow...When I went to school, everyone said to, "Cover your mouth/cough/sneeze with your hand!!"  Wonder why I was sick most of my childhood? Guesses anyone?!? :)  It was real fun to work with the kids but I am glad its over as I have so many projects coming up.

Homework left: Prepare a PowerPoint slide show meant for a 4th grade audience and prepare a handout over the Phylum Nematoda (round worms). Sounds super exciting doesn't it?!?

Elementary Art (2 hours).  This week we were to do a project involving the social studies subject area.  I did mine on George and the Kona Indians by creating a collage version of a mola (see below).  Molas are brightly intricately appliqued cloth created by the women of the Kona Indian tribe and used as a trade item to bring profits to the tribe.  I also read about chapters regarding how to teach Language Arts and Social studies with Art (too bad...I completed the art work  for language arts three weeks ago and the social studies the previous weekend before I actually read the material). :)

George looks more like a bulldog than a pug...its what I get for looking at a pug stuffy and a picture of George to complete this artwork.

Fall Break was not a break at all...in fact, as of Thursday, it has been hard to get anything done...but done I have...homework is completed accept at the Field & Lab Biology homework.  Math took up much of my Sunday afternoon and evening.

Still grieving and trying to make the empty go away.  I think of my girl often, but life still moves on even when you want it to stop.

Much Love,
Mama Mindy :)

I remember the days of college even when my mom was old she went back to school. she was the oldest person in class and she also got the highest grades. Mom said if she could get paid to go to school that is what her job would be....
Sending you our most heartfelt hug today.

I understand the load of work that math can be sometimes. I'm taking math as well and have a test in about 6 minutes! (I'm in the college library right now. haha). But I spent last night trying to get my homework ready and stuff.

By the way, I'm having a blog event titled "To My Angel(s)" on October 30 which is dedicated to our animal companions that have passed. If it makes you feel better, you can certainly try it. More info is on my blog, vegcourtesy.blogspot.com

I chose to do this event ever since my childhood pets came to me in a dream (the night after Gracie Lynn passed.) Stay strong and I'll be sending you and the family lots of love.<333
