Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Hi friends!
Mama Mindy here to share with you the finished "Sugar Skull Shadowbox" I made this past weekend.  The sugar skull I created during October's art class meeting (October 4th).  I managed to get it home without damage during a heavy downpour.

Here it is...

What I like about this art is that it is fun, easy, and really exciting to make.  It makes Halloween time seem less spooky and more spiritual.

Dia de Los Muertos (from the information I learned during my art class) is celebrated from October 31st to November 2nd.  It marks a time when the arrival of the monarch butterflies reaches their winter destination: Mexico.  Also, it is a time for families to gather and to pray for the souls of their loved one's and honor them with special shrines and sugar skulls.

My sugar skull is not an homage to a person but to two seasons...Spring and Summer.  I love the beautiful flowers and the sunshine that these two seasons bring...and I'm always sad to see them go...and I LOVE butterflies...and flowers attract LOTS of butterflies. :)

I hope you learned something new and enjoyed my art!  I sure did...since I added a shadowbox and some faux foliage...and my handy-dandy glue gun was at my side the whole time. :)

Much Love,
Mama Mindy

It's very beautiful! Yes, in Mexico we celebrate it on November 2, but here in the states, some people like to affiliate it with Halloween.

What I love about spring is the nice chill in the air but the sun is shining at the same time. Especially after a rainy day.<3

Dear Mama Mindy,

Just want to let you know that Gracie and I are having the most wonderful time. Benny is here with us, too, and we are all eating lots of cheeseburgers and running free like puppies.

Your pal, Angel Pip

P.S.: I love your shadow box and sugar skull! Really beautiful and fun!
